ZERODE TANIWHA

More about that incredible enduro

In Māori mythology, Taniwha (Māori pronunciation: `{`tanifa`}`) are highly respected protective guardians, or in some traditions, stealthy, predatory beings. The Zerode Taniwha could be seen as both of these.

TECHNICAL

WHY THAT BIKE IS SO SPECIAL

Everything was carefully thought to make that enduro bike a special bike: from the suspension to the gearbox and more. Built in New Zealand, it's been tested and approved on our beloved South African trails and downhill tracks.

,,

I think the challenge lies for people to devise confrontations for this style bike – one where the rider has to steer, search for traction and sweep through rock and root sections. A bike fit for healthy abuse.

,,

It’s worth noting that in a number of short test rides, this was the smoothest shifting I’ve felt from a Pinion gearbox yet.

,,

Look, I know I sound excited and I know you've seen me like this before. But I was gobsmacked. The Taniwha felt so light and nimble. Strong and silent. I put in a couple more laps on the other trails trying to find a weak point. There isn't one. Under power the bike just glides.

,,

In other words it’s got the giddy agility to chop and hip down the trail like a 4X bike, but it’ll silently flatten suicidal boulder fields, suck up serious drops and hook the most ragged, blown-out berms like a full-on DH bike.

,,

The Zerode Taniwha offers everything I look for in a bike – perfect looks, brilliant suspension action and the unique attributes that you can only get using a system like the Pinion gear box. Nothing feels quite the same when you go back to a regular rear mech and transmission.

,,

For a rider who thinks outside the box, looking for a hugely capable bike that blends rugged durability with enhanced downhill performance, the Pinion-equipped Zerode Taniwha wins almost every round.

Why we decided to import the Taniwha in South Africa

JUST COME AND RIDE IT!

After reading as much as there was to read about the Taniwha, I decided to head for New Zealand, meet the man (Rob Metz) and ride the bike. First time I pointed the bike down was like a revelation. The main advantage of the whole setup is definitely for me the way the rear end works. Way better than anything I tried so far and I tried a few. Removing the cassette and derailleur weight from the rear wheel is changing everything regarding how the suspension reacts on small and big bumps, how it pumps and grips. For the first time I felt that my fork was really not setup properly and get pushed by the back end. But hey, I’m just and average rider. So I brought back the bike in South Africa with something in the back of my mind. And here comes James, a proper rider, especially compared to me. The way he reacted to the first rides convinced us to team up and import this kiwi toy so you guys can enjoy it as much as we do ! Plain and simple !
